thank you all for joining okay please do something for me if you can see my note I want you to put this information in the chat type your name your children's name child or children's name in the chat okay because we do not have an official sign in sheet I need to document this way okay so just put your name and child's name okay thank you so much thank you so much thank you and listening it is 6 and we are going to you know move this along thank you so much for joining it it means a lot to to us because I'm hey we haven't been able the meet in person but I want to do my best to share with you and answer any questions that you have about the parent advisory Council and any questions that you have in general okay so this me name first there there's is going to take place we going to have the organizational meeting just to talk about the position that you can join as a tax a member of okay we can talk about that and then we'll have the actual session to go over the budget and all of that okay so hey make sure that you can talk make sure you mute when you're not speaking to eliminate the noise please use a chat function to ask a question try to keep your camera on but you don't have to I totally understand your home cooking during multiple things you know we going to stick to our time and try to activists in an hour so that we can you do move on but I do want to take care of it because I had a deadline to do this by November 15th and the first meeting we weren't able to get to you know we can have enough of us but now that I got you on and I'm so glad okay I'm so glad you're here so here let's go around and introduce ourselves before we start I have enough of you I have a for my beating corn you know I I said that I needed 10 because that's what I wanted more than 5:00 so I got your on okay we're going to talk about roles and responsibilities the officers officers okay so I hope that you all think about it elect you and then vote on our 20 21 22 meeting date look at the plan for spending and get any public comment now before we introduce ourselves I'm also going to share once we do that then we going to take a look at you know the budget okay we're going to take a look at the budget and think about something that we can spend it for that's the information now let me say this when I go back typically we have to meeting we have to meeting but because of the sake of time we don't really have time and we can get through that okay so please let's introduce ourselves I'm principal Salter rebeldia Salter this this year for for me as the principal of George Foreman good afternoon I am a people person and I too have been you're 44 years welcome parents and thank you for coming out tonight or being online tonight I see I can see you okay thank you no problem thank you for joining Annette Purnell Tiara parnell's mom Kimberly Jones Darnell Lucius mom miss I'm sorry Alejandro Alvarez and Alvarez Annabella Pablo's mom also a staff helping out with Pre-K kids Donald Buffalo Johnson mastic I'm very mastics mom yes I am broke now I'm Khloe and Cameron Buckner father a b c Chris I'm Evelyn Seacrest mom Jocelyn White Jones Evelyn at Emmanuel mom I think that was Miss Powell Miss Powell how she is a parent of Justice tumor grade 3 and she was our president. President and so now we are in are you I think she must have a bad connection okay she must have her back we have one two three four five six seven eight nine parents including her when she comes on so we have a a meeting corn so I wanted to go through looking at officers okay looking at the rolls for the year so it's typing if you can if you just for people whose to join and you don't have the link if you can't see the link in the chat McDonald ad that link in the or you can just copy it from this I think you can copy from his chat right okay so I just want to share the office has all the chairperson the vice chairperson the secretary and the Outreach coordinator and so if you click on the link that I can click on them for you too I really it goes over the roles and responsibilities so wow that that at the type top 20 2021 Packers responsibilities it's the same you know information okay this was just typed up last year but it's the same information so the chairperson you know attend and provides at the meeting and bespoke person attends all the collaborative district meeting that they have typically is closed typically they have them at Corliss high school or I think the new Pullman District facility they will have them create meeting notices and agendas and consultant with me and other pack officers call special meeting that needed find all recommendations for pictures of Title 1 funds assist program funds and parent and family engagement fun spending and in ideas for spending them and ensure that all council members off of filling their chat okay vice president Provide support of all chairpersons Duty act on all matters and absence of a chairperson oversee all financial matters related to the pack include but not limited to the court report processing physical transactions and listen listen listen I don't want anybody like oh my God I cannot do that lesson is to piece of cake that possible thought and walk you through and you don't have to do it at okay it's really it's that they've kind of wrote this stuff more complicated than it needs to be okay all transactional forms place than off the title one binder got that we got that already clear you know it's just a matter of making a I'll be poking a hole in a ticket in a binder do it look more difficult than it is okay it's not Outreach coordinator work with the pack and school administrators to help pack the SS the factors impacting Carolyn this is a huge huge piece that I want to make sure we start making sure we have parents engage lead efforts to increase attendance after being parents on their need Lee promotional package that suggests creative ways to increase parent engagement and healthy. He weighed are events and then a secretary take notes and all the meetings okay I'll take note public notice and agenda of all needing that simple we can help you with that to you know and make sure that any special call meetings are the agendas I posted draft all official correspondence of the pack under the dirt the chairperson and help us maintain a title one binder containing the documents really simple step-by-step the title one program for the office of family and Community engagement what's Chicago public schools that are really really good job of spelling everything out for us so it's nothing that we have to worry to figure out I will tell you that they have lifted they brought back the open meetings Act. they are allowing organization meeting to occur in person we can decide if we want to meet in person or continue a virtual format you know one of the things that come out of the pandemic is realizing that we can meet virtually and we can't record meeting at I've had parent meetings and sometimes I got McDonald's and I will get all the way through the meeting and forgot to refer get to record. I remembered that today too Ford it because I want to post the meeting on our website on our social media pages so that people can engage you know and just join and maybe they can hear and say hey I can be a part of that okay so hey anybody in spit in joining one of those positions and like I said it is super super easy and I want to stay this is my is my fourth year don't want to go through the motions with it you know I want to have the team together and really do the work and really come up with some really great ideas to move us forward the title one fine it's really not a lot of okay it's really not but we can do great things with what we have for title one okay we can definitely do some great things so any takers any takers participating astrolutely I am super excited okay I am excited and what are you what do you think you're interested in fighting at mr. Buckner the Outreach coordinator was highly interesting and possibly the chair sound interesting as well either one of those okay thank you anyone else this is Jocelyn Emmanuel Evelyn's mom the vice chairperson okay she going to be at Kamala Harris okay okay who else we got to keep me in mind principle for any road if you need me and you know you know about trying to do whatever needs to be done you know small world after lutely talk about a little bit of that in anyway so thank you thank you for anyone else what are open and available for me as you guys already know okay alright alright with Parnell McDonald you look Wyatt what's going on I think we all know I think we got it then take me to we got we got at least four people that spoke up okay chairperson missing Mr Buckland was like Hey I can do that you know miss the bus you want to do that would be great to have a black man-pack president it would be awesome Miss White said that she thinking she wants to be the VP then we need a secretary and now Johnson said she could do something but she didn't want to keep her plate full and all that is right notes when we do need okay right notes when we do need and then Outreach coordinator you know who we got mr. Butler said we could do that Miss Powell said she could do something what you think what you think Kyle whatever it's never been the president for wow we've had great meeting I would have liked more parents to have join up unfortunate things to happen so once again as long as we have maximum participation I'm going to stay maximum because this is the time for maximum momentum to happen with us as a staff and with our students and children without us we can't help our children and our students and vice versa so I'm just down for all Maximum participation no matter what you know I honestly because that's where we had lacked in the last couple of years and you know and it's not business as usual it's a year like no weather you know we're all going through but ultimately we all have the same goal and that is making sure we do the best fire children and our school Community you know and I and I think that this is an opportunity to Leverage you know where we are right now to leverage on maximize the opportunity to get creative and shift gears and think differently about how we do that you know and I think that we can I think we can move some momentum with some different people at the table you know speaking out about what they feel the direction is that that we need to take to school advocate Pokemon go I owe anybody want to nominate week we got some you got to sleep here okay we got to sleep so I need an election. anybody want to want to be an election officer just thought of helping me make some counts pretty much helping maintain the account we don't have to put some little Kelly then I communicate via hands if you are at home you got the Rays pan or probably just type in a yes and the chat okay. that you stepped up hey how does time work for you all let's look at our meeting dates okay how does this time work now remember I talked about we could meet in person and so let me just share on this deck and you all have access to this too if we meet in person okay and you all we can do that because you can come in and we can have fun to have food we add money to do that about $600 like I said it's not a lot but you know we can have four pack meeting the engagement you have to click to complete the online application okay so you have to send in the online application patient to come in person is a volunteer application to choose to be a level 2 volunteer okay level 1 volunteers are required to be vaccinated level two volunteers are not that is the Chicago public school policy okay so I'm fine to meet either way I do know that this platform allows us to accommodate you know parents schedule okay so just wanted to let you know but let's talk about what the best times are for you and the day so that we can get our date on the calendar for the rest of the year this time works for me meeting at 6 p.m. okay don't think I've been doing me monthly you know it suggested is that we meet monthly you know because and also in addition to the meeting we may have planned some plan activities or events you know so we can we can meet the meetings and then we may have some engaged time to meet with parents okay I see Evelyn's Mommy Dad 6 p.m. meet link to okay yeah hey I'm sorry I'm joining from my phone and so it's not as easy for me to put into the chat so anytime you know after 5 anytime after 5 yeah yeah yeah we tried it you know we tried it because we've been trying to go home but we know that that way if it gets more idea I get it absolutely so we can agree the clock today is not tonight is a Monday because I didn't do that too I didn't do Wednesday because it's the day it's the day before Veterans Day I could have any day that doesn't work for people or that works better for people lately I used to have them on Wednesday but I'm open I don't think Fridays are good for anyone you know but what days do you think I would tell you that the local school council meet on Thursday at Thursday start Thursday at 4:30 okay they meet at 4:30 on Thursday so whatever day you all you all calling I think Monday is good day okay I think Monday said it is well okay Miss Jones said okay and everybody's like Monday is good I think it is because of the number of parents that I have they joined and I am so thank you so much okay so hey Monday it is okay Monday it is I love it oh now I'm going to share with you the budget okay I'm going to share with you the budget you give me a minute give me a minute I'm going to shift some gears here I had to encounter move my screen so what I'm getting ready to share with you is the food School Improvement plan this is this continuous improvement work plan that in the plan is occluded appeared and engagement policy School parent compact in our parent but okay Tiffany Miss Johnson asked what his Outreach until let's talk about that because I'm going to talk about some of the budget pieces so that we can discuss that so when I when I do you a parent engagement policy and all of this is in this document is an electronic document called our school improvement work plan all of this like I can print it out and definitely get it to you okay put it in it and put it in a PDF file but it is what conference is extremely comprehensive okay you can see I had written out what I thought some of our dates would be but I have to change some of our dates you can see you know that I thought we were going to meet Wednesday but it's pretty much hear this paragraph here and it's kind of small I'm going to try to enlarge and it for you what we do is we have the opportunity to figure out what workshops that we think we that we that parents want what and how can we help volunteer support School climate Improvement you know I'm getting ready to send emails to solidify our parent volunteers you know I need my dad's in the building I need my mom's in the building and it's 1:45 and it's happening look for the email coming soon okay it's press concerns provide suggestions related to school culture and climb and overall academic Improvement of the safe of our students you know my first year here you know we attempted to have workshops because there was some concerns about bullying you know so we had you know I had a CPS bandori a woman's arnona would come out and give some some workshops about how to help students resolve conflict okay we had that I tried to have some you know pick a day to have coffee with the principal you know so people can throw to talk and share any concern share any ideas or just talk you know about you know how to make the school a better place any other Workshop idea that anybody had to support parent support parents and how they can support their student or any other person concerned we can come up with we can come up with a great survey to complete I had you all fill out a survey School climate personalized learning survey that we can come up with our own as from tap for this year you know I'm and it's just really just trying to communicate as much as we can apparently the nest thermostat e for getting involved okay. Pretty much what being on the pack is all about we have started you know we we started. we started and then the lack of participation the schedule conflicts you know then we have the pandemic and then we just didn't eat and then I try to engage parents virtually but then all of the money you kind of I couldn't spend it you know I have to get approval from the president the PAC president died and Powell to use the rest of the funds and I just chose to spend the rest of the money on buying more Chromebook okay buying a few more Chromebook here is our School parent compact you know this is you know really wanting parents to student you know just wondering how how can I parents work together to support student we got report card pick up coming up next week on November 17th and one of our challenges engagement with Parent Portal I think many of you online may know how to access Parent Portal but I only have approximately 27% of Pullman parents are register on Aspen to use so wanting to increase those numbers 1 and increase those numbers with parental involvement okay some of these days I have to update because I did we worked on this ciwp this parent contact you know last year but it's just a matter of dropping date then because there's nothing that I need to really change you know verbally okay and then the budget as I said a lot of fun here you see I have like a scroll up here $700 to pay a teacher presenter or a vendor to give a workshop on any topic irrelevant topic that we could identify to pay okay I have $627 for refreshments and additional $750 for again consultant this is actually for a vendor a CPS gender so you see is not a lot of fun you know and I even you know some of the money like this $700 you know with approval you know any one of you who decide that you want to participate let's just say for example you don't have a computer at home you know I can you know buy a Chromebook purchase a Chromebook you know for someone to you take notes or do whatever that's yes or no just an idea or thought but a lot of it is you know helping us come up with really good ideas to engage parent and then hiring either a teacher vendor Chicago Public School vendor that can deliver the content that can deliver some engaging discussion and content we also have some teachers and parents who have had provided ideas for example to have some forms in conversation just so that parents can have a space to talk and share some of their own concerns so that they can have a space to relate and collaborate with each other I really want to bring the village back we've lost the village you know we should be able to lean on each other to support each other you know I pick up kids for a no hold them for you know few minutes until mom arrived or dad a ride home you know or you know just just watch out for each other we should be able to do that and we need to be able to develop the community where we know each other again or parents know each other some of the greatest relationship can start from Sorrento friendship and just because of the students in the school so you know I want us to get to that point you know there's so much good there so many great things happening at Coleman and I'm in in in in in in Pullman and in the Pullman Community right so I just want we we we deserve our children deserve that do I hope that helped you know it it's not a lot of fun you know but Title One money but they're there is something definitely for us to start with okay and I have to spend it to use it okay and so Miss Johnson you asked what is Outreach until you know I Envision for example like Miss Powell is a miscellaneous worksheet be a worker here you know I am busy and being on the playground in the morning talking to parents encouraging them to participate it can start their you know just encouraging them to participate that's a piece when we can begin I hope that's clear and things like that numbers yes we can do that for sure to make phone calls we can do that yes you know if I see that they're interested in certain things I can station at hey they want to be called when this is going on directly sometimes it sometimes parents don't even look at their emails and I'm thinking that maybe you know I got a list I can call the Market duson hey little guy talk to you yes and you know I yeah I think that's a great idea okay did someone put something in chat erase 3 p.m. disappear okay someone raise your hand and I will you don't know what Kylie said her phone died okay I will get this up and definitely I can put it in PDF form but you can see the budget anyone else have any questions Miss Salter to piggyback on the Johnsons starts their do I don't think that classroom parent could you somehow maybe since I've got down to each classroom I don't know how many classes are available I mean how many classes are represented here but if that Pat member could be the classroom parent and some way does that give them any leverage to be able to reach out to to parents on various including the fact I love that idea I love that you love that idea I love it that is excellent idea thank you for that yes excellent idea very good yeah I love it anyone else have any ideas about 11 you were speaking on how it takes a village I say the next meeting should be called it takes a village that way we can possibly get the class the class parent you know the clap the parents out on the playground after school majority of the time and I don't mean to say it this way majority of time the parents are finding the right after school waiting on so why not give them the information that they are waiting for her because it does take a village to help our children and the student yes yep thank you for that thank you very much that's a great point and I have the orange vest let me go and let me go so I had originally I originally had the idea to buy this for a student to wear in the hall for student to wear in the halls for the mom shut the bathroom because we are having some we're having some issues with student and just not just being not just keeping my bathroom safe I'm talking about my hand sanitizer dispenser more important than keeping our children safe okay because teachers are so busy that they're at their enter the last in the kids have I got to go to bathroom can I go get some water and you go okay and you let that person know but you don't read are really sure who that who else was in the hallway what are the kids are in the hallway waiting to go to the restroom and so initially we have to talk to have student leaders do that might not be a good idea just might not be a good but you have parents in the hallway where they at you know just walked just just on each floor third floor second floor first floor because I'm I like that term the email get lost in the sauce you know the total the kids doing today you know sometimes I get weak and you know it just it just gets to be a lot you know and so I really definitely would love my my volunteers to wear these what do we call it a dachshund to dance the I always forget about that Carly moms on the mission and something with the dads but but just being more of a prep just being present you know I would love that dads on duty look he remembered that's right that's on duty you know and and listen I'll charge you with that I'll charge you with that I called it's just so funny I like to say Power Circle to him but Mr Buckner can definitely you know hey rally up our dad you know we need to rally at more about Dad participation you know just to have men more men in the hallway with me so much you know it was just so much and provide a sense of security for for our boys and girl okay so I definitely anyone have any other comments so what do we do from here like your  further instructions you're going to sit out the what you showed us but then what do we do don't worry so let me share that so so so you know I got the state of the school Title 1 allocation I don't have any plans you know we can definitely talk about I'm not going to tell you what my plan if that's what the pack is going to do I got a title one parent engagement policy I'm going to send that to all of you via email you know about what that is it's just pretty much I have it here this is the end and policy OK and this is just a policy that was drafted by Chicago public schools and I did put the link in the chat and it's just described the parent engagement policy you know I am required to communicate to you everything about what's happening in the school and too and be committed to getting your participation in the best overall success of the school okay do all of these loans were attacked by telling you when I tell you I got you I got you we have decided that our meetings were going to be on Mondays expensive you know I can say that this is the stack this is actually the second Monday of the month so we can be safe to go that way moving forward you know and actually keeps us safe because the second Monday in November I mean Empire in December is 13th the third Monday is the 20th there's no school so we can do that okay January 10th February 14th March 14th April is spring break that you know which is okay we can adjust to another day if you'd like we can do the first week in April or the 3rd week in April May 9th and then but then keep in mind if we come up with activity you know that can be considered a meeting okay back and was considered a meeting and also you know there are if you when you when you join I want you to attend here go some Orient confession you have to register to attend the sessions okay and all of this is on the link but here are the the face South Side Collaborative sessions they have really really good meeting to just inform parents overall Alcorn to participate in pack that you have a public schools in the South Side Collaborative Thursday Network 9 11 12 13 16 at 7 about the pack you know View District updates and talking to you about parent leadership and how to do all of that to your to your question Miss White however please know that I don't just leave you out there right now I don't just say just got to do this by yourself by I don't do that that is absolutely true I remember going to the meeting at Corliss on Thursday and I'm going to be honest it probably was it was me and Miss Parnell for the most part and maybe who are the parents but when I feel you guys we had a ball we want every raffle we was the loudest there and everybody knew those particular Pullman parent literally they can be walking in the door he was always the first ones that they knew who we were and we always want Raffles and everything so it is a bunch of fun along with getting the acknowledgement on what pack is and how the parents that the child the studio be engaged with the staff and everything and we did enjoy it breakfast lunch coffee gifts I mean who can beat that early in the morning we can beat that and imma send you the link this is a man we got a couple forms that we're going to fill out here is the I'm dropping that shot but again it's in this link okay it's it's in this actual link I share with you to register to attend okay magistrate and they had October sessions of course we missed that but they had to have additional session set up in December okay for you to learn all about it but when I tell you that I am with you like so before we have our next meeting you know it's really nothing to do but agenda I will most likely create that and it would just be a standard agenda you know I miss Miss Johnson you just take notes that's all you need to do you know do you know we just my power Circle can lead us through you know do you know just kind of we can create what do we how do we get our parents info for when we going to talk about you know what's relevant right now and maybe that's letting you know maybe that's starting with the first in H-E-B just keep it simple no doesn't have to be anything brand you keep them because we trying to hit on some topics right now like you know Miss Jones came up the great idea of classroom parent you know classroom parent volunteers about a hallway monitors are Dad's on duty moms on a mission with these bet you know that that starts the present right that's the present one of my parents. A beautiful she has three children at Pullman and she said she was the one that shared you know I just want to get the parents together mom's together to just meet you at the lot of us are going through so much trying to raise children you know I'm trying to make ends meet trying to do our best to keep them off the street you know what are some things that other people are going to how can we have to collect and help each other you know how can we protect our family how can we protect us you know just talking about all of those things I will share that torment is now a community schools I'm waiting to find out what partner I will have but that that program is about $130,000 a year for the next ten years that's out of school time that's after school money and so you know I didn't start after school in October because I claimed that I manifested that week Columbus Community school and get this partnership you know now that we had it they're going to match up with the community partner but we have the funds to create something sustainable for years to come to engage our students after school and I didn't started in October because I just was it was a thing called cold it out here and I was just a little confused about how to move you know so now we have this opportunity we can think about other input from you about something we think kids want to that would want to be engaged in that the world is ours like it's so open and I think it's great because we can recalibrate we can shift gears and kind of after 18 months and kind of car back to you know keeping the main thing the main thing and do it and that's our children now that's our children I wish we were in person because this is where I would have all of these things printed out for you but I will print them out for you okay I will definitely print them out for you anybody have any any questions or concerns can we have the the survey ready or like a pack handout ready for parents up for report card pick up I love you love you too yes sir this form I dropped the link in I need you to fill it out for me okay this sort of record that we had this meeting an information was discussed and covers okay so you fill out the survey and then I will confirm it in another survey that I have to complete okay but it looks like we got our homework we tweet we got our meeting date I think the first order of the mission is to recruit parent classroom members and someday I'll call and dance on duty and some moms on the Mexican and then I have my homework to create a packet report card pick up and our next meeting is December 13th 8649 I told you I was a piece of cake not difficult and we can make this so fun you know we can make this go find I tell you I'm I stood my daughters were Chicago public school students and my daughters went to school with those kids in kindergarten there now both in college and I'm not only they're not only friends with us think they keep in touch with their high school friends but I'm friends with them to you know the parent you know don't that's where some of my greatest relationship friendship to come from those parent relationship and I and I I used to look forward to picking my daughter's up from school and just started Elena shooting the fat in a parking lot you know before going home I just look forward to seeing I'm at this mess and girlfriends and guy friends and we just talked and had a good time and just we have a common bond with our own village and I no we can get that back here we can bring that here it's here it really is here because we have some dedicated parents here some dedicated parents I can see that in the students in so we can we can bring that here can definitely bring it I'm so grateful for all of you for participating thank you to our new officers we going to rock it out this year we will rock it out this year and and I want to keep open communication I want all ID I want them come out the box with it you know come out of the box ready I desire to have to grow this enrollment to email from the three about 3:35 student to 4:35 you know when I when I got here it went to 416 and then of course the strike and covid you know it's significantly declined it is a district issue Chicago Public Schools I got here is drop at least over a 100,000 students yes over the because people move hold it had people enrolling in other school that had were taken kids in person what is that method they had to move to other states going to Charter Schools you know just kind of move in and I just want to bring it back listen some phenomenal teachers here you need to know that if you didn't believe it or if you doubted they aren't there are some phenomenal teachers at Coleman and you know we we have to band together because there's a there the biggest concern is his not doing their work and not doing the work and I don't think it's because they just flat-out don't want to do it I just think that we need to do what we can to help them back. and more importantly get parents involved because a lot of them don't just don't know you do a lot of them just don't know and in teachers have a lot on their plate they have a lot
